Pantone 2021 Color of the Year

Before the beginning of a new year, the Pantone Color Institute introduces their ‘Color of the Year’ to the world. The color often conveys the tone of the year to come. A prime example can be seen in the 2020 prediction of Classic Blue. In the midst of turmoil, Pantone revealed the color stating that it has the attributes for “instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.”

Pantone not only provides the focal color, but also releases palettes that fit various design styles, so that anyone can incorporate the new look in their space!

As for the 2021 Color of the Year, they chose two shades; Illuminating and Ultimate Gray. The two contrasting, yet complimentary colors were chosen for a specific reason by the executive director.

After a year of the ongoing pandemic these colors were chosen to brighten the world and the souls of everyone who has been impacted by the “classic blues”.

Color is more than a simple hue, it has the ability to create a mood and set the tone of a space. Varying shades can carry different properties! Typically, lighter and vibrant shades of yellow and pink create a joyful feel. Neutral shades similar to tan and baby blue provide a feeling a peace and serenity. Darker hues like maroon and deep browns take on an ambitious and confident tones.

Choosing a color scheme takes time and consideration, so be patient and picky!
